The Destination Meta-Guide.com 2.0
is a powerful research tool, or discovery engine. It consists of pre-programmed links to
existing search devices, which return dynamic - ever changing results. It
provides a special way of looking at the geographical world through the
structure of the Internet. A few countries are too large for best results,
and a few too small, however most countries return useful if not unique results.
About
The
Destination Meta-Guide.com is a project developed over many years by
travel writer and author Marcus
L. Endicott, mainly for his own purposes (R&D). It has been his
attempt to represent the bulk of travel and tourism resources
available online from a destination perspective in a single place.
The project began in early 1998 as an outgrowth of his "GREEN-TRAVEL
Ecotourism Meta-Guide", part of the "GREEN-TRAVEL World Ecotourism
Directory" section of the old green-travel.com site. meta-guide.com
was first archived by the Internet Archive Wayback Machine in
February 2001.
Features
One of the basic ideas of this site is not to have any static
content at all (except for this page of course), in other words it
is fully automatic... and up to date! Every page contains the
world navbar to the left and very latest green travel news for all
countries to the right. Below latest green travel news to the
right is today's popular pages widget. Above every page
contains full bookmarking, custom site search, and who's on now
widget. At the foot of every page, you may leave a comment.
Additionally at the foot of every page are keyword links, which show
the standing of that page in Google for those keywords.
Further to the left of the world navbar, you can find links to buy
your copy the book, VAGABOND
GLOBETROTTING 3, ideal preparation for travel, or try calling
the author, Marcus Endicott,
with the new
Skype Prime service for personal help with your plans.
{Hello? Who you gonna call?}
AUSTRALIA : Every country has a page (234x) and that
page contains three central sections. The first is the
latest green travel news for that country. The second is
up to the ten most recent postings about that country to the
green-travel group. And the third is a special search
of that country's domain for green travel related web sites.
Guide | The Guide page for each country is an
experimental listing about that country's geography, climate,
environment and history. It also contains protected areas,
environmental organizations, heritage sites and cultural
organizations when there are any available for that country, so
is most effective for larger countries.
Journals | The Journals page for each country checks for
the most recent in depth coverage of green travel topics by
academic and scholarly journals for that country, key terms are
summarized in the cloud at top.
Videos | The new Videos page for each country shows
green travel videos for that country when available and
otherwise includes the latest country-specific travel videos.
Blogosphere | And then there is the Blogosphere... this
page searches for the latest blog postings with candid green
travel information about the given country. This too is
summary clouded.
Twitter | This page checks for the latest Twitter about
that country, revealing interesting things happening there
today, also presented in summary cloud.
Note, if you see anything in this site that you don't like
or you think shouldn't be here... please leave a comment to that
effect at the foot of any page!
